I am so frustrated. Lets see, today I waited on hold ( the phone kept ringing once it stopped the elevator music) for 2 hrs.

Then the call was dropped. I had tried at 7:30 am when they opened as I thought I would have a better chance, but no. Back on the phone again and still no response, just ringing. (30 minutes so far) I have been trying to repay the amount I was overpaid 4 years ago.

They started notifying me in October 2014. I have sent the payment to them by certified mail and they still keep sending me reminders that it needs to be paid and that I need to call them. Well, I have tried and in the past few months when I have gotten through, they tell me just to ignore the statements and that it just takes awhile to process payments. In the mean time they are threatening to put this on my credit report, etc.

I am not going to keep just sending them money if they aren't getting it. I have called my local office, but they can only except cash or check. I am wanting to pay with my credit card, so I don't have to keep on trying to deal with them. The phone is still just ringing.

What can I do?

The phone # is 1-88*-231-****. It is "Great Lakes Program Service Center in Chicago, Illinois" It is the Debt Collection part of Social Security.

Reason of review: Poor customer service.

Location: Des Moines, Iowa

That is so true....

We are all in the same boat. I have kids and my son is autistic so ENTITLED to this money, but I got tired of fighting with them about it.

I try every possible way to pay. Phone, online bill pays have been sent. 4 total and only ONE ever cashed. Not sure what we are supposed to do.

I need my tax refund-I depend on it to get caught up since I'm a single mom. I got ONE PHONE CALL when I sent a faxed letter, but was working so I missed it. The rep said she would call back the next day but didn't. So...maybe faxing in something gets a response?

I'm gonna try again today. Its ridiculous and stressful.

SAME HERE!! I set up a payment arrangement with SSA and I sent my first payment.

Then about three weeks later I got a notice saying they never received the payment so I sent it again. I checked my bank account and it was never cashed. Then I got a letter stating they were going to garnish my wages if I didn't pay. I literally called the Debt Center in Chicago to find out what the heck was going on and after the music it just started ringing and ringing.

I have sat and listend to it ring for 51 minutes. I received a notice that they have sent a garnishment request to my work!!! I feel hopeless since I cannot get ahold of anyone in Chicago! I tried to set up an appointment with my local SS office and when I called I was on hold for 47 minutes only to be told that they could not schedule an appt.

because the schedule of available options was not in the system yet and I had to call back!! I hate this *** What a horrible system it is and the people that work there seem like they don't know enought to come in out of the rain!!

This is happening to me too. I try daily to make a payment and after hearing a message about high call volumes and an estimated wait time of 15 minutes, I hear some music.

Then the ringing starts and continues for two hours.

I just get frustrated and hang up. They canโ€™t expect to get money if this is happening!

Yes, I let my cell ring for 5 hrs straight!! They want to take my taxes for not answering their phone.

I feel your pain. I was in automatic payments and they havenโ€™t cashed any checks for 5ths either and my bank shows none were returned.

OVERPAYMENTS??????? They underpay all of the Nut Check recipients every month.

They have to either be homeless or live in places that would be condemned if the authorities inspected them. They should be sending people extra money for all of the underpayments that they have been receiving for years.

I wrote to the local Social Security office. I am canceling the check I wrote to the chicago overpayment office.

https://www.ssa.gov/representation/pct_contact_info_54older.htm try this option for their direct number

Guest

Same for me no answer ever. But they threaten to take taxes etc.

Call ss office and get no where. Because they know nothing

Guest

Same thing going on here. I am guessing just disregaurd notices then?!

Guest

My experience is the same as everyone else called and called out on hold for 20-30 minutes it starts ringing rings exactly 13 times and then goes dead !

Guest

I too am trying to reach them to make a monthly payment on an overpayment and have yet to get through. Went from holding for hours to the automated system telling me all operators are busy and to call back later. Im so over there bull!

Guest

Same problem. How would you like me to repay you when there is no way to get in contact with you?

But you expect me to pay in a timely manner? Figure this out or I just won't pay it ever.

Guest

Yes. I've experienced all of the above, only I'm on a monthly schedule for repayment and its *** trying to do it.

I've literally spent an HOUR on hold only to be disconnected with a recording about high call volumes. When i've mailed payments, it has taken 2+ weeks for the account to be credited.
