3 months later...

Notified SSA of my father’s passing, as did the funeral home. Within days they promptly debited his savings account of his last SS check. I am now going on 3 months still trying to get it returned to our family, to whom it is due. Numerous calls, 2 1724 forms sent, original documents (they so conveniently seem to have lost) and no status or claim updates from them at all. It’s bad enough when a family is grieving with the loss of a family member but the BS you have to go through is insane. Karmas a *** and it will come back around. Wait until it’s your family!

Overpaynment

I signed an agreement with SSA for them to withhold $70. a month from my SSDI check for overpayment and every month they keep taking my whole check. It cost money for me to go downtown to ask them each month to release my check. August 6, 2019 I lost my part-time and on September 3, 2019 SSA keeps my check again. Talk about kicking one when they are down. What was the point in signing an agreement if SSA is not going to honor it. I am so tried of this, this has been going on since March.

Social Insecurity

Every time I have had contact with the social security office by phone regarding my retirement benefits the customer service reps were VERY unhelpful. One gave me mis-information about when to file for benefits and after filing the 2nd one I spoke with was extremely condescending, implied I was ignorant and was just down right rude. I couldn't get a word in to explain anything to her because she constantly talked over me. My first impression of this government administration is that they do not want to give out the benefit I deserve after they have collected social security taxes from my paycheck for 50 plus years and will do almost anything to thwart an attempt to make a claim. Rude, bullying, misinforming and could care less attitude. Thank you to the United States of America for putting these types of people in charge of MY money that is supposed to benefit me in my elderly years.

Rude employee

Received my ChampVA information and they told me I was eligible to have Medicare A and Medicare B was mandatory. Went to Waxahachie, Texas office. When called to window-was called very rudely and the whole time I was there the guy was rude after he walked away for a few min before coming back to the window. He asked me 3 times what my name was and never asked for my id. Pretending he was looking on the computer. He said the VA and social security are two different entities-do you understand that? I said yes I do but why would they send me this form saying I needed to have Medicare B if I wasn't suppose to have it. He said the VA knows nothing about social security admin. He proceeded to tell me I would not be eligible for SS benefits. I said how do you know that and he said I had not worked enough pretending to look in the computer. I called 3 years ago and they told me what I would get ss. I said that makes no sense I worked for many years. He would say again what is your name??? Towards the end of the conversation he I told him he was very rude and he said well you are very rude. I said the reason I am rude is because you have been that way this whole conversation. He said give me you ID again. I said "how can I give you my ID again when you never asked for it?" He said I'm asking for your ID now and I said you said again and I'm telling you-you have just now asked for my ID. When I got up to leave I said..... what did you say your name was and he said.....S P A R K S (spelled it out)...…. like I cant spell. If you don't like your job Sparks find one you do because you are not good at this one!!!! Sorry excuse for an employee SS admin.!!!! Weed the fraud waste and abuse out there are plenty of people wanting jobs!!!

Removing my payee representative

I went into Mckinney Texas to have my representative payee removed. I requested to speak with management since I’ve been in this office several times for help. After 4 hours of waiting a manager calls me to tell me she wasn’t able to help me. She didn’t even want to hear me out. I told her I no longer wanted my representative gave her reasons why she said she was going to cancel my account. I want justice. She treated me as if I was retarded or stupid. Can someone please tell me who I report this to?

Contact the office of your congressional representative. They can file what is called a "congressional" with SSA. These are problems with government agencies referred to the congressman from constituents and the agency involved takes them seriously and usually helps solve the problem.

SSA will not help you to get off the handout system

Update by user Feb 12, 2020

As of 2/12/2020 SSA states that my husband has now created an income that doesn't exist. We have sent in pay-stubs every month but now SSA is saying we owe an over-payment because SSA says my husband make over 1900 a month.

He does not, his pay stubs do not reflect that amount gross or not, this amount does not exist. They made this up and are now holding me responsible to pay back the over payment. I have worked since I was 12 and paid my taxes, I was told when we pay taxes we gain something out of this deal, NO WE DON'T.

We pay taxes so our government can harasses us, and threaten us with legal action, and blame us for the abuses when it is the government causing those very abuses, We will never get on our feet because my government doesn't want us too. They will do anything and everything in their power to discredit those who were created by the medical system and became disabled because of the very government forced health care system that created the majority of the disabled, and then the government will force you to become their scapegoat, to prove the disabled have no rights, No consideration and are abusing the hand outs to cover up the governments own lies.

Update by user Aug 09, 2019

Guess what I just got off the phone with SSA and they said that if I ask to go off of the ssi portion of my disability then I have to pay back all the ssi that I have been paid. So when does the government help people? They don't

Update by user Aug 09, 2019

I just got off the phone with another SSA agent and I asked to be taken off the SSI portion completely, and was told that if I request to be taken off of the SSI portion of the disability I will have to pay all of the SSI back that I have received. They do not want you off of the handout system.

Update by user Aug 07, 2019

To resolve this the SSA needs to give people a minute to catch up. We are the most physically damaged people and yet no matter how hard we try we cannot get enough to eat properly, just let my husband get through his internship and then when he gets the job after the internship we both can get off the handouts. But apparently we are not supposed to get off the handouts because if we did then the government couldn't keep blaming those who believed in them in the first place.

Original review posted by user Aug 07, 2019
Every time I call the SSA office I am told something different each time. Me and my husband are disabled. He suffered a hear attach at the same time I went through chemo. He was left with several bad handicaps. We lost everything, including our home, our retirement, went homeless for a few. I was denied ssd for two years. I finally received it, two adults are living on 750 a month. I had asked SSA to not give me SSI portion of the disability, but they refused now we have grown accustom to paying rent. My husband after four years finally received an internship through AmeriCorps it pays 1275 a monthly stipend. I loose 500 of my income a month. We are going to be further in the hole because my husband is working. SSA are supposed to be the experts on this situation and they have no idea what to do. I told the SSA office that I will just divorce my husband live in the until divorce goes through, then I will move back in with him as a roommate. This would solve the problem but one SSA representative says they will still take away my income. So apparently if you are on ssd you cannot have a roommate, or you will be punished. HOW IN THE HECK CAN WE GOT OFF THIS CRAP AND STILL SURVIVE? SSA doesn’t care. According to the government we are in this position because we made bad decisions. Guess what government, I became disabled because I believed in the government and our healthcare system. I was diagnosed with stage 2B breast cancer and told the only I was going to survive was to take chemo. After my husbands heart attack we received Obama care, I found out three year later it states on my medical records that I was STAGE 1 and” Chemo therapy should not be offered” So it is my fault that I believed in my government. Then the other lie they told me was that we pay our taxes so the government will help you if something like this happens, HELP YOU no they can’t they don’t even understand their own rules.

Lack of response

After 40 years of working, I applied in April for Social security benefits to begin 7/1. My application has been 'pending' since then. I called a few times, and made personal visits, I was told my application is awaiting an approver to approve it. The local office cannot get the "approver" to process it. I am still waiting for a phone call with an update.

To sign up for Social Security

Tried to make an appointment in the office for social security to get my Social Security payment setup. Was told that I couldn't get an appointment for 5 months which was unacceptable because my birthday was in 3. Tried to call earlier to get my appointment they said I had to wait for 3 until I was 3 months before my birthday. Then I set up an appointment for a phone interview I'm 2 weeks before my birthday. Got a reminder call the day before say my appointment was at 9:30 in the morning. Weighted the next day for 4 hours never got a phone call. Call the Social Security Administration they did know why I didn't get a phone call. Very frustrating. Tried to do my application online the system was slow then it logged me out then it froze up. I attempted four times to complete my application online and still did not get it done this is very frustrating for me I am very disappointed in the system. The system is very Antiquated and needs some work it shouldn't be this difficult to get things done. You try and go into the Social Security Administration website and work your way around through it it is very difficult if they are expecting us to use a website they need to make it more workable for us. Also I feel that I'm not that important because I didn't get a phone call I have waited 5 months for this phone call to get my Social Security in order and make sure it's okay. Couldn't get it done. I guess I'm going to have to go in and sit down and just wait until somebody has time to see me. Very disappointed in the system

What this person states is True. Social Security gives you different information each time and they lie!

I was told they called twice and mailed documents. They mailed NOTHING. I have phone records showing they never called ever. Their customer service makes up stories to suffice people.

This is OUR MONEY! The SS workers get paid because we paid into the system.

Why is it so hard to get our own SS money? If anyone commits fraud, it is the Social Security Offices in the USA!

I was at my local Social Security office and it was jam packed with people sitting in nearly every seat. I was waiting to sign in behind a lady who looked at the crowded room in disgust and asked the security guard if there was a certain time she could come back when it wasn't so packed.

The guard told her "We never know what the public will do." She turned around and left without signing in. I signed in and sat down on the grimy seat and I ended up having to wait a couple of hours to see someone.

It was so gross and disgusting. I recommend that if you are going to be going down to the Social Security office that you should bring some Clorox wet wipes to wipe down your seat and some hand sanitizer as well.

You can contact one of the many attorneys advertising on local TV stations but be careful and make sure you don't give them any money up front to represent you with SSA. You might also try this: contact your local congressman who can file what's called a "congressional" with SSA asking for more info and help on your particular case.

Federal agencies treat these congressional inquiries seriously and you might get some answers, etc.

thru the congressman's help. I would try this option before anything else.
