Let me start off by saying that I receive an SSI check for my Autistic son who also has sensory processing issues. I recently moved and have called around 5 or 6 times in the last 3 months to change my address with them. Everytime I have called either the Knoxville, TN or Nashville, TN office they are rude and disrespectful. Not only do they blow off your questions there attitudes when answering your questions make you feel like you are stupid for asking them. Everytime I would call them and ask them why the letters and his check were still going to my old address they always told me it takes 30 days for all information to update in their system, even if I called to change it five or six weeks prior. At one point when I called to ask about my address yet again I asked her why I was only getting $480 a month when I have had to quit my job to stay home with him and I also have two other children to take care of. She responded with, " honestly you're lucky to get that seeing as you and your kids still live with your mother." I have never been so offended in my entire life. She had no idea who I was or what I've been through to land me in the position, at 26, to have to move back home.

That brings me to today. I received another letter at my old address so i called the Nashville, TN office to ask why my address hadn't been updated yet. While she was looking at it she said, "oh wow, that's not good." That's not really something you want to hear when you dealing with the government. She proceeded to tell me that they had denied my review and the $480 that was deposited in my account was deposited by mistake. After i informed her that i had already withdrawn all of it to pay rent and pick up a few groceries she told me i needed to get the money back ASAP or i would end up in big trouble and would have to pay it all back. Im not gonna lie, I was shocked, but it made it worse with her attitude and the fact that everytime I tried to ask a question she interrupted me by saying the exact same thing, "you have to call the Knoxville location, I just can't help you." I couldn't believe it, I had called to ask why my address still hadn't been changed and she pretty much told me that it doesn't matter anyways because they had canceled my case. I hung up and with hopes and dreams I went to the Internet for help so I hopefully didn't have to deal with those people anymore, I was already on edge. As I was searching through the SSA website I got a phone call from my DHS case worker saying she was reviewing my case and wanted to know why I only get $480 a month when most of her clients get around $700 and she has never seen anyone get below $600.

Since I couldn't find anything on the Web and had to call the Knoxville location to ask if my case was canceled anyways I decided I would inquire about this as well.the first gentle man I talked to seemed ok at first until he told me to be quite and let him talk. While he was verifying my identity he asked me to verify my address, I explained the situation to him and he assured me it was changed this time, unfortunately I found out later that nothing with Social Security is instantaneous. I then asked him if my case had indeed been canceled and he told me that he had no idea what that lady was talking about, she must be new. Although that did lift a huge weight off my shoulders I was still very aggravated with everything I had to already deal with today. After he told me that my case was still open it was just pending he tried to get off the phone, and seemed aggravated when i told him i had another question. I proceeeded to asked him about why the amount he receives is so low he looked at my file for a minute and he reminded me that if I didn't still live with my mother and paid my own bills I would probably get more. I bit my tounge and told him that I live on my own now and my bills do get paid. He responded with, "well why haven't you changed your address before today?" Good Lord do these people ever listen to anything you say? I went on to have a 10 minute conversation with him about how I have been calling for over three months trying to change it with him doing nothing but trying to hurry me off the phone and arguing with everything I said. Apparently he had enough of actually having to work so he transfered me to who he said was a supervisor who deals with questions like the ones I had. As soon as she picked up the phone my landlord knocked on the door to come over and look at my AC unit. I quickly told him it was in the hall, luckily I still had my phone to my ear so I could hear her say, " can I help you with something or can I go so you can talk to them?" We were definitely getting off on the wrong foot. I explained to her about the problems I was having with my address change, which she never addressed, and then I went on to tell her about the conversation I had with DHS earlier in the day and asked why my check is so low. And once again she reminded me that I live with my mother and don't pay any bills so I shouldn't expect to get more than that. REALLY!!!! They should of had in there records that even when I was living with my mother I paid $500-$600 a month to help with expenses. She then told me my case has been pending for three months and she would call me back next week and let me know if they need me to send anything in. I can't tell how much I am not looking forward to that conversation.

If i hadn't had enough of having to deal with social security already, I got a letter in the mail today saying that my son's insurance had been switched from United health care to medicare since hes on social security. Wondering why his new insurance card didn't come with the letter, I called medicare to ask them when i could expect this and they said that I would have to call the National Social Security office to see what kind of Medicare he has and then they would send me the card. I called them . Of course they have to ask you a few questions to verify your identity. When it came to the address question, once again, I tried to explain to her about the problems i had been having getting my address changed, she didn't even acknowledge I was speaking and asked for my address again in a very stern tone, so i told her it is either [my new one] or my [old one] she informed me that the records showed my old one. So once again she tried to change it. However, for some reason she did know what month I moved and what my lot number was which is a little weird to me that they had that information but not the street address. She told me I had to go to my local office to change it and I had to take my lease with me for proof of address. As I was in the middle of me telling her that I misplaced my lease and was gonna ask if an electric bill would be ok she rudely interrupted me and in a forceful and aggravated tone said, "I said you have to bring your lease other wise your wasting your and their time" I let that comment go because after over three months of dealing with them I was used to there "better than everyone" attitude. I responded with, "fine, well what's going on with his insurance?" She then proceeded to tell me that there was a lapse in his insurance because I didn't call and change the address in time. This is when I could not contain myself anymore. I asked her, "how is it that you are saying that I haven't changed my address, which is calling me a liar, but for some weird reason you knew the month I moved and my lot number. So how exactly did you know that if I never called and told you all?" After a brief pause she snapped back and said, "I'm just telling you that we have no records of you calling." I had enough at this point so I snapped right back, "you may not have record of it but there is no other way that you would know that information if I had not called. I don't understand why my son is being punished by not being able to go to the doctor because he has no insurance because the people who work there are too lazy to get of Facebook or solitaire and do their jobs...hello...hello" she had hung up on me. I at no point yelled or cursed, I showed her the same consideration and same tone she had shown and given to me. I wish I could say that it was just today that I have came in contact with arrogant employees working for SSA, but I cant. Everytime I have ever called either of these three locations I get nothing but arrogance and aggrevation from them. Something needs to be done. This letter is in no regards directed towards the Social Security Administration as a whole, but rather towards the employees that I have encountered. If someone could please contact me with a solution to the reason I was calling in the first place it would be highly appreciated. Thank you
